Services
The following services are available in all 15 of the Southeastern Public Library System’s Libraries.
Reader’s Advisory Service – When you would like assistance in locating or selecting library materials, we are pleased to help you. If you have internet access, we invite you to discover the searching power of Ibistro our online catalog;
Ask Our Librarian – Have a question? When you need a fact, statistic, quote, or any kind of specific information, ask us to help you find it. Our Reference Librarian can be reached by emailing questions to Christopher Elliott or call our reference center at 800-562-9520. We can help you search the Internet, too.
Youth Programs – Preschool story times, summer reading programs, and special events for young readers are an important part of our effort to help with developing good reading and library habits.
Interlibrary Loan – Need a book, magazine article, or document that isn’t in the local library? By using statewide and international networks, we can usually borrow or get a copy of it for you
Internet Access – Each of our libraries have computers with dedicated line connections to the Internet. They are busy, so it is wise to call ahead and schedule a time. Computers equipped for use by persons with disabilities are available in several of our libraries
Copiers and Fax Machines – Are in each library. The copiers are coin-operated, self-service units, charging $.10 per copy. Please bring change.
TDD Access – Call the McAlester library at 1-800-562-9520. The Poteau, Idabel, and Heavener libraries also have TDDs
Outreach – Ask us about children’s programs, community reading collections, and delivery to shut-ins
Library Tours & Instruction – Call and arrange a time for your group to learn more about the library and how to use it.
Meeting Facilities – Some of our libraries have rooms available for use for public meetings when they are not required by the library. Call your local library for details.
A computer training lab at the McAlester Public Libraryis available for use by organizations. Call 918-426-0930 or 1-800-562-9520 for details
Video Conference Facilities McAlester Public Library and Broken Bow Public Library now has video conference equipment available for use by the public. To schedule a time for use of this equipment, please contact the McAlester Public Library at 918.426.0930 or at Broken Bow Public Library at 580.584.2815
Fax Service – It is the aim of the Southeastern Public Library System of Oklahoma to promote the exchange of and improve the access to ideas and information for the residents of its service area. The library system thereby shall make available to the public fax transmission capabilities with the following guide lines Staff operated: the fax equipment will be operated by the staff. Charge to send: the library shall charge $.50 per page to send materials within the continental United States
Sending outside the U.S.: the library shall charge per minute to send materials outside the United States Customers shall sign an agreement to pay before the fax is sent. They shall be advised of the estimated cost per minute and cautioned that partial minutes are charged as full minutes.
Staff will print out the time information from the fax machine as soon as each call is over and shall calculate the charge according to a table of international long distance rates that the Service Center will provide. Maximum Length: There shall be a maximum of 30 pages per transaction. Available when the library is open: the hours of the fax machine equipment shall be available will be the same as the hours the library is open to the public. ILL Periodicals Excluded: this policy does not apply to periodical information requested by other libraries.
